Some Americans regard the upcoming winter season as lost time, but Wisconsinites have joyfully learned to embrace the ice, snow, and cold. Not only is our winter wonderland a splendid sight after a fresh snowfall or hoarfrost, but eastern Wisconsin has excellent snowmobile trails, lakeside snowshoeing, and romantic ice skating. We fully understand that you may not want to spend all of your time here in the snow, which is why we’ve compiled three of our favorite things to do in Sheboygan, WI. Our lakeside city comes to life every winter with holiday light shows, carriage rides, and the famous Breaker Bay Waterpark at Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center. So, without further ado, here are our three favorite wintertime activities.
Making Spirits Bright
Starting November 23, Evergreen Park will be beautifully lit by the Sheboygan County Rotary Club for the seventh annual “Making Spirits Bright” holiday light display. This 1.2-mile drive-through light show displays nearly one million LED lights in the largest park in Sheboygan. Making Spirits Bright takes an entire year to plan, organize, and construct. The light show is choreographed to holiday music, which can be heard on 98.1 FM. Food donations and cash contributions are highly encouraged to help local non-profits and the longevity of the event. After the light show, visit the Quarryview Center for a visit with Santa Claus, hot cocoa, handmade holiday wreaths, and free live music. This holiday event is chief among things to do in Sheboygan during the wintertime.
Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides at The Wade House
Nineteen miles west of downtown Sheboygan rests the historic Wade House in the quaint village of Greenbush. The Wade family were the first settlers in Greenbush, four years before Wisconsin became a state in 1848. Their 1850s stagecoach inn, now deemed a historic national landmark, is known as The Wade House. The property has a sawmill, hotel, and museum, but the main draw of The Wade House is the wintertime horse-drawn wagon rides. Hop aboard an old-fashioned wagon and feel the authentic horsepower during a scenic ride around the massive estate. These majestic draft horses are beautiful, friendly, and powerful!
Breaker Bay Waterpark
If there is one activity that the entire family can agree upon, it’s going to Breaker Bay Waterpark. Splash in 79,000 gallons of water, surf on The Riptide, and float down Molly’s Moat. The waterpark is accompanied by Pier Fun Zone and Lost Temples Miniature Glow Golf. With so many activities in one location, you won’t have to leave Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center for a day or two, regardless of the season.
