Summer Fun at Blue Harbor Resort

The best time of the year has finally arrived: summer! School is out, the sun in up, and we’re ready to make the most of this fun, bright, and adventurous season! Excitement for all the summer activities is practically contagious, and so to tide you over until your vacation, I wanted to share with you my day of fun at Breaker Bay Waterpark, along with the other summer activities you won’t want to miss out on during your vacation at Blue Harbor!

Breaker Bay Waterpark 

Over Memorial Day weekend, my partner and I decided to spend the day at Blue Harbor’s indoor waterpark, Breaker Bay! I have been inside Breaker Bay many times myself, but never experienced the fun firsthand. Neither had my partner, he hadn’t even seen the waterpark in person before! So when we decided to give it a go, I decided why not share my day of waterpark fun on my blog so that you know what to look forward to and expect during your trip here. When we got there, we claimed a table to leave our stuff at- foolishly, I brought my book thinking maybe we’d lay around in the 84-degree heat and relax at one point. Spoiler alert! I didn’t touch my book the entire time because my partner and I enjoyed almost all aspects of the waterpark the entire day we were there (and we’re both in our early 20’s). So it’s safe to say whether you are a parent and coming with your family or not, you’ll be letting your inner-child out and riding waterslides or rafting down the lazy river all day long.

Waterslides, Lazy River, Lily Hopper, and More! 

The first thing we did together was jump in the pool by the lily-pad hopper to test the water and shoot some hoops in the water basketball “court”. I’m normally terrible at basketball, but it was fun to be in the water and splash around trying to get the ball in the basket. But soon, the temptation of the newly renovated dueling waterslides was too strong to ignore.

We hopped out of the pool and opted for the two-person tube and proceeded to go down the massive and speedy waterslides many times. And when I say many, I mean it! Sometimes we’d break up our waterslide trips by entering the lazy river (the entrance to which connects to the pool you exit the waterslides in) for a lap or two. Ultimately, all roads (or pools and staircases) brought us back to the exhilarating dueling waterslides. In addition to using the two-person float, we also tried the individual ones and raced each other which was just as fun. I can’t emphasize enough how fun this waterpark attraction is, the slides are so massive both in height and length, and you go so fast, I don’t know how anyone couldn’t feel young at heart riding down these slides.

In addition to the dueling slides, there are two other slides for the big-kids and adults that you can race down as well, these slides are not as big and are body slides instead of tube slides. Of course my partner and I had to try racing down these as well (he mostly won).

Because of his waterslide winning streak, I challenged him to a lily-pad hopper test: who can get across it the fastest? To say the least, he might have triumphed at waterslide races, but I was the queen of the lily-pad hopper. It’s both fun and entertaining to cross yourself, and to watch others attempt to cross. Being a petite size, I had nimbleness on my side and therefore I loved the lily-hopper.

After so much activity, we were both in need of a refreshment. Being over 21, we opted for the canned adult beverages, enjoying a 3 Sheeps beer and a Carbliss seltzer from the Rocky Bottom Snack Bar. In addition to alcoholic drinks, there’s a selection of non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, and food like pizza and sandwiches you can order. We enjoyed our drinks watching the giant water bucket spill over the entire Breaker Bay Pier activity center, and when we were done and ready to get back in the water, decided to let the bucket drench us before we went outside to the outdoor pool deck to test the water.

It wasn’t the warmest or brightest day outside, but the pool was a surprisingly great temperature! We ended up splashing around outside perfectly warm in the heated pool for a good 20 minutes playing water basketball. When the clouds started to look rainy, it was time to head back inside for another round of trips down the waterslides and drifting down the lazy river, trying to get splashed by the pouring buckets and shooting fountains scattered throughout the loop.

On The Rocks Bar and Grill

Towards the end of our daytrip, we dried off, exited the waterpark, and went to the 2^nd level of the resort to On The Rocks Bar & Grill (just off to the left side of the main lobby) to try out one of the monthly specialty cocktails. I got the Blueberry Limeade (which I was told was such a hit among patrons that this specialty cocktail is on the list again for the month of June). It was absolutely worth the hype. Because you’re given a waterpark pass wristband when staying at Blue Harbor, it’s easy to go from Breaker Bay to other parts of the resort when you want to. It makes it so much easier to take advantage of all the fun activities across the resort without having to dedicate a full day to one activity (unless you want to).

The Beach

Although I spent my day mostly inside, had the weather been nicer, I would have absolutely stepped outside the gated pool area and walked up to the beach that is immediately behind the resort. On various other sunny and warm weekends, I’ve grabbed my beach blanket and spent full days laying on the beach, listening to the waves and the gulls, and read my book while soaking up the strong Sheboygan sun (trust me, you’ll want to stay on top of the sunscreen). I haven’t been brave enough to take a dip in the lake yet, however, I’ve seen plenty of people wading into Lake Michigan and even swimming. I love that I can spend part of the day at Blue Harbor swimming in the pool or splashing around the waterpark, and then simply walk a couple of yards and be on the beach. There simply aren’t other places like this in Wisconsin, it’s truly unique to Blue Harbor.

Outdoor Activities at Blue Harbor 

Speaking of unique to Blue Harbor, if you’d rather spend your summer days indulging in drier activities, there are lawn games available all day on the lakeside, and bonfires with s’mores available by night! One of my favorite summer activities has been and still is a summer bonfire- and s’mores certainly only make it even better! S’mores are available from 7pm to 8pm daily while supplies last, while bonfires are available between 7pm and 10pm every night as long as weather conditions accommodate.

Although I couldn’t do this during my day trip on Memorial Day because of the restaurants hours, during the summer The Beacon Restaurant is opened for dinner daily. One of my favorite aspects of the summer months is the ability to sit outdoors for meals. Nothing beats an energized day of fun finished off with good food and lakeside views. The Beacon Restaurant and On The Rocks Bar & Grill both have indoor and outdoor seating space with stunning views of Lake Michigan.
