EMAGINE SHEBOYGAN NEAR BLUE HARBOR RESORT DOOR COUNTY COFFEE CO

Door County Coffee Co.

Unless you’re new to my blog, you know how much I love coffee. Something I haven’t talked about a lot on this blog is my love for Door County, Wisconsin. I grew up visiting all the time- and not just in the summer, in the fall, winter, and spring. To Green Bay, Door County is our backyard, and as someone who lived in Green Bay for 22 years, I went to the backyard a lot. I obviously love travel, especially in Wisconsin, and since moving to Sheboygan a year ago I discovered how similar Sheboygan is to Door County. Beautiful lakeside views, a charming community, beautifully landscaped and cultivated neighborhoods with unique shops and restaurants, outdoor activities galore… basically all the things you love about Door County but with less than half the drive for most of us! And now Sheboygan has one more component of Door County, one very special and exciting to me, Door County Coffee Company!

A few weeks ago, some of the Team Blue members and I got to head up to Egg Harbor to visit Door County Coffee Co. and tour their building. Today, I am happy to share about this trip, as well as announce on this blog that Shoreline Café in Blue Harbor Resort will now be serving Door County Coffee! I’m pumped about this exciting update for a couple of reasons, which I’m about to spill.

A Little Bit About The Coffee

To begin with, did you know that coffee is the second more traded commodity in the world? You might have guessed that oil takes first place, but coffee is indeed the follow up. Coffee actually is a fruit, coffee beans are found inside a coffee cherry, and the bean is the cherry-like fruits seed. If you’re a coffee lover, you might have already known this. Even if you’re not a coffee coinsurer, you probably are familiar with where most coffee beans come from: The Coffee Belt, the area located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Our visit to Door County Coffee Co. started with this introduction, explaining that the higher the sea level in the Coffee Belt, the denser and therefore more flavorful the bean! So the level of elevation in this strip of the world that we call the Coffee Belt is important to the quality of your coffee.

The reason this is relevant is because it’s essential to understanding how high of quality the coffee Door County Co. uses. They only use the top 2% of Arabica coffee beans, and only use class one specialty grade coffee. You know you’re getting high quality coffee when you drink Door County Co. because they guarantee their coffee is held to this quality. It’s no wonder the coffee company ships to all 50 States, as well as 15 other countries!

The Tour & Behind the Scenes

After our presentation, we were taken on a full tour of the production process of their ground coffee (including some special holiday flavors they were working on prepping). We got to see the full extent of the property and the building they produce their coffee in. I was shocked by how big their building actually is! We got to see the process of how they make their flavored coffees; a spectacular and intricate process in which a barrel of coffee beans is sucked up into a funnel machine, processed through another where the flavors are infused with the coffee, and then packaged in the familiar Door County Coffee Co. bags we see on shelves. Watching this production was so cool and unique, I loved seeing the process that’s behind the scenes of one of my favorite coffee businesses. The warehouse was impressive in both its size, structure, and organization.

In addition to seeing the production of the coffee beans and grounds itself, we also got to see the immense collection of flavored coffee stored in their warehouse. The sheer amount of seasonal flavors alone was astonishing. I couldn’t help but feel a little excited for the fall and winter flavors that I love so much, even though it was a beautiful summer day. We also got to see a little bit of the shipping and receiving process at Door County Coffee; the burlap sacks of coffee beans come from various countries in the Coffee Belt, and each destination has a unique animal printed on the burlap. This was super cool to see and imagine how far these beans have traveled to end up in a quaint little county in Northeastern Wisconsin. If you’re ever up at their location, they give out these burlaps for free in a bin out behind the back of the building. You might start to even see some of these burlap sacks making appearances in Blue Harbor Resort…

Shoreline Café

Which brings me back to the exciting news that Shoreline Café in Blue Harbor now sells Door County Coffee! There will be a short list off different coffee flavors that are available each month- for September, the Black and Tan, Vanilla Hazelnut, and Old Fashioned are the flavors available!

I’ve been so eager for this collaboration; I can’t believe the time is finally here! Now Sheboygan feels that much more like the beautiful towns in Door County, but with a much shorter drive from Milwaukee and Chicagoland. The Lake Michigan views, beaches, unique small businesses, delicious food and drinks, our lakeside resort complete with an indoor waterpark and outdoor pool, plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature, and now, the top 2% of Arabica coffee- thanks to Door County Coffee.
